This short story was the winner of the 2023 Australian Furphy Literary Award and first published in the 2023 Furphy Anthology.
It’s a very Australian story about a man with an extraordinary talent, and the woman he loves. It won’t take you long to read, but it may stay with you… you might think of it when you see a river running through red dirt, or watch a sheepdog herding sheep, or listen to seagulls gathered on the beach. Lots of people have loved this story. You might be one of them!
